Celebrating the life of
Jon Charles Hope
July 12, 1954 - March 29, 2011
Jon Hope, 56, passed away on March 29, 2011. A dad, brother, uncle, best friend and colleague, he left before we were ready to say "good-bye."
Jon was born in Miami and grew up primarily in Atlanta. When the Braves came to Atlanta, Jon became a fan. He delivered papers on his route with the game blasting from his transistor radio. And he remained a fan, driving from Savannah to attend all of the playoff games. Jon ran the Peachtree Road Race over twenty-five times and introduced his son to that tradition.
Jon was a published newspaper columnist while he was still in high school. He received encouragement in his writing from humorist Art Buchwald. And he later graduated from UGA with a degree in Journalism. While in Athens, Jon got to know the Rusks, and Dean Rusk encouraged him to attend law school. His J.D. was also from UGA.
After leaving Athens, Jon began his career as an assistant solicitor in the Cobb County District Attorney's Office. He moved to Savannah in 1987 to become an assistant D.A. in the Eastern Judicial Circuit. He then moved to the Ogeechee Circuit District Attorney's Office. At the time of his death, Jon was working as an assistant D.A. in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit in Hinesville.
He is survived by his son, Jon, daughter, Whitney, and their mother, Kim. He is also survived by his mother, Teddi Hope, his sisters, Mary Denson and Donna Hope, his brothers, Jim Hope and Bill Hope, along with many nieces and nephews.

During the summer after my first year of law school, I was lucky enough to work with and learn from Mr. Hope. He was a good attorney and kind person, and will be missed.
- Channell Singh, Hinesville,
I first met Jon at elementary school about 50 years ago. We also went to Lakeside H.S. together about 40 years ago, and stayed friends by phone for many years after that. I am incredibly saddened and shocked by the news. I still remember him vividly as one of my childhood school friends, and I will keep those many good memories of him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
- Joe DiPaola, Davis, CA

My deepest condolences to the Hope family. Jon's quirkiness was a delight to all and he will be sadly missed at the DA's office and by the Atlantic Circuit. May his memory live on in the wonderful stories shared by all who knew him. Rest in Peace Jon - and may the Burger King on the other side be the grandest yet!
- Dawn DeLoach, Hinesville, GA
My heart goes out to the entire Hope family. Jon was a man of character whose traits included loyalty to family and friends, honesty, grit, intelligence and an unsurpassed dry wit and sense of humor. He often used humor to dissipate an uncomfortable moment, which made you realize that sometimes life is an absurd comedy. Jon was highly respected and admired, and will be missed tremendously by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. RIP, Jon, and we will see you on the other side. Meanwhile, make them laugh up there. Yvonne Dube Lilburn, GA

I will miss Jon's humor and quick wit. Jon would come to Atlanta in the early 90's for Braves games. A group of friends always had a cookout. Jon never failed to show up without one half a bag of potato chips. He will be deeply missed by all that were lucky enough to have known him. I was lucky enough to have gone to Bobby Cox's last game as the Braves manager. I will do my best to uphold his tradition with the Braves.
- Richard Sellers, Atlanta, GA
Our thoughts and our prayers are with the entire Hope family who have Jon as a guardian angel watching over them. Love will always be the bridge between us left here on earth and those who have passed on to eternal life. Rest in peace, Jon.

I only knew Jon for a short time practicing with him in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit. In that time, I found him to be a wonderful person, able to make me laugh in the midst of stressful circumstances. I had looked forward to more of his advice and humor. My condolences to his family. He will be missed!

Jon was one of a kind. His honesty and dry sense of humor were a joy. I worked with Jon in the DA'S office in his first years there. He was the best boss you could ask for. I remember all of the other ADA's always ended up piled into his office when they were joking around. It was a pleasure knowing Jon; my prayers are with you Kim and with Jon's family. You will be missed
